La 10ᵉ étape mènera les coureurs d'Aurillac au Lioran sur 167 km dans le cœur du Massif Central. Le peloton s’élancera depuis Aurillac avant d’attaquer des ascensions majeures comme le col de la Griffoul (inédit sur le Tour), puis le pas de Peyrol, le col de Pertus et le col de Font de Cère, avant l’arrivée au Lioran. Le dénivelé positif est annoncé à 3 900 m, et les 70 derniers kilomètres ne comporteront quasiment aucun terrain plat. Une vraie étape de montagne qui pourrait créer des écarts entre les favoris.
